Our Rented Apartments Retirement Concept
Situated in the bustling seaside town of Eastbourne, East Sussex, The Hawthorns Eastbourne is just a short 15 minute walk from the seaside promenade and just a 10 minute walk from Eastbourne station and the Arndale Shopping Centre.
The Hawthorns Eastbourne brings together a variety of people from different vocations and locations all united in their desire to make good on their intentions to enjoy their retirement years. We are more than a collection of beautifully appointed, secure and well maintained apartments, we are above all a thriving community of people who all share a desire to live their retirement independently, to share together in a stress free retirement, lived on your own terms.
Eastbourne itself has numerous attractions for the retiree – plenty of sun, sea air, a wealth of entertainment, cafés, parks and gardens, and a beautiful coast to explore. But almost an attraction in its own right is The Hawthorns, where you will experience an independent and active way of life by paying only one monthly rental charge, eliminating all the strains and stresses of daily life and letting you concentrate on enjoying life to the full.
This transparent, monthly rent covers utility bills, maintenance, meals, laundry, cleaning, council tax, free public Wi-Fi access, activities and excursions in our mini-coach. No hidden exit fees or spurious maintenance costs. All you have to take responsibility for is your personal telephone bill, TV package, TV licence and insurance cover. Helpful staff are always on call 24 hours a day, and should your circumstances change, our flexible contracts allow you to leave with just a month’s notice.
At the Hawthorns Eastbourne there are studio, 1 or 2 bed apartments within the main residency, equipped with their own kitchenettes, some with their own balcony and patio, and adjacent to these, within our grounds are The Gardens, a collection two-bedroom maisonettes and bungalows, both with fully-fitted kitchens and private garden space. Whether it’s an apartment, bungalow or maisonette, it’s guaranteed to be light and airy and come with carpets and curtains, telephone and internet points, all with a friendly housekeeping service to keep everything just the way you like it. There is even a guest room should friends or family need to stay overnight.
Residents of The Gardens have full use of the facilities at The Hawthorns which include a busy restaurant with table service, a coffee shop, gardens, a well-stocked library with free newspapers, activity room and cinema.
Always Something Going On…
It’s only a 15-minute walk to the town centre and the promenade, but if you want a change from the charms of Eastbourne, there is plenty to tempt you within The Hawthorns itself. There are numerous groups to join — bridge, whist, canasta and a book club for instance, gentle exercise opportunities for men and ladies, or some crafting in the activity room, perhaps some table tennis on our popular table. You can always indulge your artistic flair through flower arranging or art classes and our full size snooker table is a magnet for our gentlemen snooker players!
There are frequent coffee mornings held in aid of local charities, race and casino nights, and concerts that range from ukulele groups, saxophonists, harpists or local choirs. Everyone is encouraged to involve themselves in as much or as little as they wish. Got an interest or hobby? Well, there will almost certainly be others who share that very same interest. Making acquaintances is easy and most of our residents thrive in the companionable and supportive community we cultivate and newly arrived residents are quick to settle.
Many residents enjoy dressing up for the special themed nights, which can take their inspiration from themes as varied as the Twenties and Thirties through to saints days or a culinary tour de force of say Italy or India. At such events our team of chefs lay on a spread and delight us, showing off their culinary flair with dishes from around the world.
Fine Dining Over Wine in Our Dining Hall
Pleasing the residents is the aim of our team of chefs, whatever the meal. Breakfast, lunch and supper are all beautifully presented and with a wide variety of choice and table service. Emphasis is on the freshest of seasonal ingredients, and whenever possible, locally sourced from across East Sussex. You might even spot the chef cutting herbs and edible flowers from The Hawthorns’ own kitchen garden. No diet is ever a problem and a vegetarian option comes as standard at every mealtime.
Lunch is the main meal of the day and served with wine, many residents choose to gather beforehand to catch up with the days goings-on before seating. Healthy snacks, cakes and biscuits are available all throughout the day, and or special occasions there is a private dining room where residents can entertain their friends and families in their own space.
Eating is a real occasion at Hawthorns Eastbourne and the restaurant is alive with chatter and atmosphere as residents get down to discussing the days activities or upcoming engagements.
