Communal Retirement Living at Its Very Best
Situated in the bustling seaside town of Eastbourne, East Sussex, The Hawthorns Eastbourne is just a short 15-minute walk from the seaside promenade and just a 10-minute walk from Eastbourne station and the Arndale Shopping Centre.
Our East Sussex retirement home brings together a variety of people from different vocations and locations all united in their desire to enjoy their retirement years. We are more than a collection of secure, superbly appointed and beautifully maintained rented apartments, we are above all a vibrant retirement community of people who all share a desire to live their retirement independently, to share together in a stress-free retirement, lived on their own terms.
Private Retirement Bungalows & Flats
We also have available a number of private retirement bungalows separate from our main building but very much apart of home life. These bungalows are available to rent and come with a fully fitted kitchen, two bedrooms and an open plan lounge and bathrooms en-suite. These rented retirement properties are all-inclusive like our rented apartments, so you dont have to worry about your meals, maintenance, and bills. Each home has its own private garden which is fully maintained by us, but there is also the opportunity to meet your neighbours in our communal, shared front garden, with its benches and pathways.
Our Rented Retirement Apartments Concept
The little things matter here at The Hawthorns, and we take care of the details leaving you to make the most of your retirement. Our fully inclusive apartments are available on a monthly rental basis and with just one month’s notice there is flexibility all round. We take care of all the day-to-day hassles such as cleaning, paying bills, home maintenance and even the cooking, allowing you to fully enjoy life in a socially inclusive atmosphere that is secure and fully managed.
When we say all-inclusive, it really is. There are no hidden extras or spurious exit fees like at some other retirement villages, and one single monthly charge means freedom from having to manage multiple utility bills and maintenance of gardens and buildings. All we ask is a one-off community fee upon entering that covers the cost of re-decorating your flat.
Set in elegant surroundings in a retirement community of like-minded people you can live as independently as you wish, with the added reassurance that everything you could possibly need has been considered and taken care of.
A Retirement Home-From-Home on The Sussex Coast
Our Eastbourne retirement home offers studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments within the main residence, each equipped with its own kitchenette and some with a balcony or patio. Adjacent to these, within our grounds are The Gardens: a collection two-bedroom maisonettes and bungalows, both with fully-fitted kitchens and private garden space. Residents of The Gardens have full use of the facilities at The Hawthorns.
Whether it’s an apartment, bungalow or maisonette, it’s guaranteed to be light and airy and come with carpets and curtains, telephone and internet points, all with a friendly housekeeping service to keep everything just the way you like it. There is even a guest room should friends or family need to stay overnight.
Eastbourne itself has numerous attractions for the active retiree: plenty of sun, sea air, a wealth of entertainment, cafés, parks and gardens and, of course, a beautiful coast to explore.
Our Sussex retirement village has been accredited with the prestigious Hospitality Assured Award, thanks to its remarkable levels of customer service. Hospitality Assured is the national quality standard created and licensed by the Institute of Hospitality, specifically for customer-led, service-orientated hospitality focused businesses. The process enables and encourages businesses to look at their operation through the eyes of the customer at every level of the organisation, identify what is great about the customer service and what could be improved. This respected award looks at the excellence in overall hotel and support services at a specific site, delving into the services from front of house, food and beverage, culinary and housekeeping services.
Our Thriving Retirement Village
It’s only a 15-minute walk to Eastbourne town centre and the promenade, but if you want a change from the charms of Eastbourne, there is plenty to tempt you within The Hawthorns retirement village itself. There are numerous groups to join — bridge, whist, canasta and a book club for instance, gentle exercise opportunities for men and ladies, or some crafting in the activity room, perhaps some table tennis on our popular table. You can always indulge your artistic flair through flower arranging or art classes and our full-size snooker table is a magnet for our gentlemen snooker players!
There are frequent coffee mornings held in aid of local charities, race and casino nights, and concerts that range from ukulele groups, saxophonists, harpists or local choirs. Everyone is encouraged to involve themselves in as much or as little as they wish. Got an interest or hobby? Well, there will almost certainly be others who share that very same interest. Making acquaintances is easy. Most of our residents thrive in the companionable and supportive retirement community we cultivate, and newly arrived residents are quick to settle into home life.
Many residents enjoy dressing up for the special themed nights, which can take their inspiration from themes as varied as the Twenties and Thirties through to saints’ days or the culinary tour de force of say, Italy or India. At such events our team of chefs lay on a spread and delight us, showing off their culinary flair with dishes from around the world.
