Retirement Apartments Overlooking the Bristol Channel
There aren’t many places where you can sit with Gin in hand and watch the sun set over the sea, but the The Hawthorns Clevedon, set in four acres of beautifully landscaped grounds & overlooking the Bristol Channel, is one of them. We are a proud, vibrant Somerset retirement community with apartments to rent, some which have their own balconies others patios, but all benefiting from the homely interiors and the hotel like services that our residents enjoy.
Choosing The Hawthorns means that you can joy an independent lifestyle in the company of like-minded retirees, with all the burdens associated with everyday living addressed by our fully inclusive rental apartments. With many of our residents, both couples and singles, choosing to ‘re-size’ their lives, selling or letting out overly sized properties and replacing uncertainty with a fixed, all-inclusive rent, with no hidden maintenance or exit costs.
With maintenance, housekeeping, dining, council tax and utility bills taken care of and the added benefit of a free regular mini-coach for shopping and trips out, you can see why it begins to add up.
Our one or two bed apartments are newly decorated, have a shower rooms, kitchenettes, carpets and curtains, a TV, telephone and internet points, your own central heating controls and an integrated alarm system. A manager is on call 24 hours a day for emergencies. And if you find that your circumstances change, you only have to give a month’s notice. What is flexibility in your retirement years, not to mention your peace of mind worth?
When you step outside your apartment, you’ll find a hum of activity. Residents meet in the coffee lounge or outside in the garden, pick up the daily newspaper or a good book in the library, or join in with the many activities and outings. Friends and family are always welcome to come and see what is going on or drop in for a chat. There is even a guest room should they need to stay over.
A Community Right Outside Your Door
It would be hard not to feel part of the vibrant community spirit that flourishes at The Hawthorns; there is always something to look forward to, whether it’s Tai Chi, art classes, bridge, line dancing or snooker on our full sized table in our games room. Our various society’s and clubs give The Hawthorns something of a ‘club house’ feel to it. We are companionable and it is hard not to quickly settle in this friendly, active retirement community. You might say a real retirement home from home!
There are regular tea dances, talks, concerts and events, some to mark special days in the calendar, and for the others? Well any excuse for a social engagement will do! With over 100 residents mealtimes are lively affairs with lunch the main meal of the day. The local community are regular visitors too and our money raising exploits are well know. We are as charitable with our time for each other as we are with our fundraising.
Trips out in the mini-coach go all over Somerset, places such as Budleigh Salterton and Sidmouth on the south Devon coast and, closer by, Weston-super-Mare, Chew Valley Lake, Bath, Cheltenham and the lovely Wye Valley. The town itself has, of course, its famous pier, a range of interesting shops, plenty of cafés, while a walk along the promenade is always a delight.Watch Our Video
Come Dine with Us
A coffee on the seafront is very nice, but so are the well-cooked meals in the Hawthorns’ own restaurant. Meals are a focal point of the day, so whether it’s breakfast, lunch or supper, there is always a good choice of seasonal fare to suit all appetites and palates. Vegetarians and those with special diets will find our chefs very accommodating.
Lunch is the main meal of the day when aperitifs and wine are served. If you are peckish between meals, there is always a selection of fruit, cakes and biscuits on offer in the coffee lounge. A private dining room is available, should you fancy a meal with friends and family for a special occasion.
All our food is beautifully presented, as we know this is important — our buffet lunches are a delight to behold. Chefs enjoy cooking for the candlelit dinners we have through the year and for special occasions and themed evenings such as the Chinese night and the St Patrick’s Day supper when entertainment is provided as well.
