All Play & No Work!
As well as your own personal living space, there is much more to enjoy at The Hawthorns. Our retirement village is not just a collection of apartments; we are a vibrant, friendly community of retirees. Residents and their guests can be found in our coffee lounge where you can sit and chat over a morning coffee, a library for quiet times with the daily paper or a good book, a cinema room for movie screenings and a hair and beauty salon for that bit of extra pampering.
Friends and family are always welcome to join us for meals as well as recreational activities. They are part and parcel of the atmosphere of our home. If your apartment is not big enough to put up guests, you can arrange for them to stay in a guest room, and if you would like to have a special celebration with your loved ones, a private dining room is at your disposal.
It won’t be difficult or a chore to make new friends as there is so much going on, once you step outside your apartment. Whether it is our monthly tea dances and regular talks, performances and shows including a regular pianist on the grand piano, quiz nights and special evenings such as the New Year’s Eve Dinner and Ball make for a full social calendar.
Day to day, there are activities such as indoor bowls, croquet on the lawn, chess, snooker and plenty keep-fit and crafting sessions. Our minibus can take you to the shops or out on trips, as there is so much lovely countryside waiting to be explored, whether it is the estuaries and creeks of the Essex coast or slightly further afield to the Constable territory of Dedham Vale. Many residents volunteer locally and enjoy raising money for charity, we are certainly a community that is active with, and well connected to, the local Braintree area.

Food for Thought
We know how much importance residents place on their meals, so we make sure that each dining experience is as good as we can make it. It’s quite an atmosphere when we all gather and the dining hall hums with chatter and the talk of upcoming events.
Recent Testimonial From One of Our Residents
“Dad lived at The Hawthorns Braintree from the April 2015 to September 2017. During that time I visited him on a very regular basis and came into contact with a broad range of staff, including members of the management team, reception and catering staff, minibus drivers, gardeners and maintenance, and room cleaners. Without exception every one of them were pleasant and helpful and entirely focussed on delivering excellent customer service both for residents and visitors. Dad was very happy living at The Hawthorns, Braintree and it was only ill health that forced him to leave and move on. Dad told me that The Hawthorns Braintree was a wonderful place to live and one where he always felt safe and secure and well looked after.”
