Walking the Hawthorns Way with Sherrie

At the start of March, Hawthorns Ambassador Sherrie Hewson paid us a visit, bringing her infectious brand of fun and laughter to our day at The Hawthorns Eastbourne, as we held a Walk & Talk event, featuring our ‘Walking The Hawthorns Way’ initiative.

On arrival Sherrie met staff and residents and headed straight for the Hair Salon where the salon team made her feel at home and chatted about hair and beauty offerings whilst giving Sherrie a little pampering. She made time for all the Eastbourne residents and staff, chatting about daily life and posing for photographs.

After a week of unseasonably glorious sunshine on the South Coast, the wind and rain decided to pay us a visit too, but this didn’t stop us getting outside for a short walk with Sherrie joining residents from The Walking the Hawthorns Way Group in our lovely landscaped gardens. As it was St David’s Day, bright daffodils lined the paths, as well as lots of other colourful spring flowers.

After the walk, everyone headed inside for tea and coffee and a delicious buffet with all kind of cakes and bakes, which Sherrie and residents enjoyed whilst exchanging stories and amusing anecdotes on their lives, families and even times gone by.

Everyone here at the Hawthorns enjoyed the day with Sherrie, and we would love to welcome her back in the future!

Walking the Hawthorns Way

‘Walking the Hawthorns Way’ is a new initiative to help our residents stay healthy, energetic and independent. The initial idea has been so popular with our residents that we have now produced our second initiative, believing that retirement living should be all about staying as fit as possible. This further initiative includes a 4-week program of walking recorded on a weekly chart where residents can keep track of their progress. Once a resident has completed the 4 weeks a certificate of their achievement is awarded. We look forward to introducing this to our residents and seeing the progress they all make!
