Why Wait?- The Hawthorns Clevedon

“Two months after my wife died of coronavirus in April 2020, I discovered how difficult it can become when you are suddenly left on your own with your nearest family over 120 miles away in Bristol. With the lockdown, it became a very lonely existence, and the management of a four-bedroom house with a reasonable size garden became difficult, so I decided to move closer to my family.

I looked at purchasing a retirement flat but discovered the cost was very high with the management fees in addition. I then investigated rental of a flat which was compatible with my lifestyle and found that The Hawthorns located in Clevedon, North Somerset, seemed the ideal spot. I was near my sons, and The Hawthorns had a full programme of activities which would keep me busy. It was situated on the seafront with lovely walks and activities available locally.

After an initial telephone call to The Hawthorns Clevedon, I was invited to spend a month trial stay which I took up in September 2020. I was impressed with the management, found the food was of high quality, and the other residents very friendly and helpful. The one-bedroom flat was well appointed and comfortable with plenty of storage space, and a lovely view over the Bristol Channel. The complex is also surrounded by lovely gardens which I found pleasant and relaxing to walk around. I enjoyed the art classes very much, and this allowed me to revisit my former hobby and develop my art skills further.

I left at the end of September to return to my house in Plymouth, but I missed the company and friends I had made during my stay. After very serious consideration, I decided that I would move to The Hawthorns on a permanent basis and moved in December 2020.

I am pleased I made the decision to move, and I can only give praise to the staff and management team who give a kind and courteous service to all the residents. Nothing is spared in resolving any problem I have experienced during my residence.”

David Jeremiah, The Hawthorns Clevedon resident.
