Sherrie Gets Active at The Hawthorns Braintree
Although stage and TV actress Sherrie Hewson is currently on tour with the Benidorm cast, she is still keen to keep her mind and body active! She recently visited The Hawthorns Braintree at our Retain and Regain event to find out some top tips to maintain her well-being.
Assistant Manager, Julie Burks, welcomed Hawthorns Ambassador Sherrie with a bouquet of colourful flowers and introduced her to residents and staff many of whom had photos taken with Sherrie.
Sherrie took part in a Retain and Regain session with trainer Ronald Gladwell. He visits the Hawthorns three times every week and helps the residents to learn various exercises, as well as giving free advice about maintaining physical and mental health and the importance of well-being. He gives demonstrations on Pilates, Tai Chi and other core stability exercises. The aim of the Retain and Regain programme is to improve balance, mobility, flexibility, muscular strength and to help maintain independence and general health. The session with Sherrie was enjoyed by all as she participated alongside the residents and chatted to them throughout.
After the Retain and Regain class, Sherrie met other residents in our Coffee Lounge to chat over tea and cakes. Our chefs prepared a wonderful arrangement of jam tarts, malt loaf and Victoria sponge cake for everyone to enjoy.
Julie praised Sherrie’s enthusiasm, saying: “Sherrie was impressed with our community and enjoyed talking to our residents and getting to know them. She thought our Retain and Regain programme was very beneficial to our residents for health, well-being and social interaction.”
