Head Out With The Hawthorns Northampton

Retirement living should be all about staying fit, active and healthy in your later years!

With this in mind, The Hawthorns Northampton have created a series of walks designed for all abilities and level of walkers to help our residents achieve exactly that.

Starting on March 25th there were four groups of walkers, made up of staff, residents, families and pets! The more adventurous went for the Woodland Walk in the woods at the back of The Hawthorns and our residents loved getting out in the fresh air. One of the many positive comments was that,“The weather was gorgeous, and it only took 25 minutes to complete the mile. I will definitely keep it up as I have been told to walk for at least 20 minutes a day for my health and I really enjoyed today!”

For those with lower confidence there was an internal walk inside the building, which by completing five laps meant they had walked a whole mile. Some of the residents walk a lot less than they used to and their feedback reflects how pleased they were of their efforts; “Absolutely fabulous! It was great to chat whilst we walked and I can’t believe I achieved a mile!”

David Seward, General Manager of The Hawthorns, and one of the leaders of the group walks said, “Head Out With The Hawthorns is a great way to bring our community together; we had a good group of people achieve a mile in various ways today which was a super result”.

With walking you can start at a level that suits you to reap the rewards; with a free Hawthorns pedometer along with a chart to track your progress over a four week period, you can monitor your steps and once you have completed the charts you can hand them in to Reception to receive your Heading Out With The Hawthorns certificate, which details your achievements.

It is well documented that a good regular walk can do wonders for both your physical and mental health and all you need are comfortable shoes and clothes. The Hawthorns would recommend anyone to come and try their walks, and with two routes being inside there is no need to wait for a sunny day!
