Clevedon Pier Refurbishment and Historical Talks

As long-time supporters of the historic Clevedon Pier, the Hawthorns in Clevedon were pleased to be involved in the project to restore the Pier gates to be ready for Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations. Over the years, our residents have been among the most frequent visitors to the Pier, and we are looking forward to seeing the gates returned to their original condition.

In January, we were also pleased to welcome Phil Curme, Chairman of Clevedon Pier & Heritage Trust Ltd, to The Hawthorns for a historical talk about the Pier. Our residents enjoyed the presentation, which covered a range of facts about the pier, as well as an overview of the great relationship between Clevedon Pier and The Hawthorns. There was also the opportunity to ask questions at the end of the talk.

Phil received lots of great feedback, with one of our residents, Joy, stating, ‘’I had a great time, thank you. It was a very informative talk, and I loved the photos too. It was an interesting talk and delivered optimistically, and Phil has a great sense of humour, too – I can’t wait for his next talk’’.

Phil will be returning to deliver another talk on Monday 21st March, this time taking our residents on a virtual walkthrough of Clevedon’s military history. The virtual walk explores how the town has survived wars from as early as the 9th Century, taking the residents on a virtual adventure from town to the countryside and, of course, the seafront.

We are looking forward to welcoming Phil back for his next talk and seeing the Pier gates restored to their former glory.
