At The Hawthorns Clevedon, you can make your retirement as active or relaxed as you choose. Set in elegant surroundings in a retirement community of like-minded people you can live independently with the added reassurance that everything you could possibly need has been considered and taken care of.
Clevedon is an attractive seaside town in Somerset and The Hawthorns is perfectly positioned on the seafront with views across the Bristol Channel to Cardiff Bay. Residents can take advantage of the sea air with their own nine-hole putting green, four acres of landscaped grounds and easy walks to the seashore.
If you want to be at the heart of an inclusive retirement community yet retain your independence, then one of our fully-serviced rented retirement apartments may be just the thing for you.
Our Retirement Living Concept
Retirement living really doesn’t get any better than this. The beautifully appointed apartments at our retirement village in Clevedon are available on a monthly rental basis with one simple and fully-inclusive monthly rental charge that covers everything. We take care of all day-to-day hassles such as paying bills, home maintenance, cleaning and even cooking, giving you the freedom to enjoy an independent lifestyle in the company of like-minded retirees.
Many of our residents, both couples and singles, have chosen to ‘re-size’ their lives, selling or letting out over-sized properties and replacing uncertainty with a fixed, all-inclusive rent. With just 30 days’ notice, there is flexibility too and there are no on-going maintenance costs nor hidden exit fees like some other retirement villages – just a one-off community charge upon moving in, to ensure that your chosen apartment comes freshly decorated and with new carpets where required.
With maintenance, housekeeping, dining, council tax and utility bills taken care of and the added benefits of a free regular mini-coach for shopping and trips out across Somerset and Bristol, you are free to fully enjoy life and make the most of your retirement.
Rented Retirement Apartments Overlooking the Bristol Channel
There aren’t many places where you can sit with gin in hand and watch the sun set over the sea, but our Somerset retirement home set in four acres of beautifully landscaped grounds, is one of them. We are a proud, vibrant retirement community with a range of beautiful apartments to rent, some which have their own balconies, others patios, but all benefiting from the homely interiors and the hotel-like services that our residents enjoy.
Our one or two bedroom apartments are newly decorated, have a shower rooms, kitchenettes, carpets and curtains, a TV, telephone and internet points, your own central heating controls and an integrated alarm system. A manager is on call 24 hours a day for emergencies. And if you find that your circumstances change, you only have to give a month’s notice. What is flexibility in your retirement years, not to mention your peace of mind worth?
When you step outside your apartment, you’ll find a hum of activity. Residents meet in the coffee lounge or outside in the garden, pick up the daily newspaper or a good book in the library, or join in with the many activities and outings. Friends and family are always welcome at our retirement home and see what is going on or just drop in for a chat. There is even a guest room should they need to stay over.
A Vibrant Community Right Outside Your Door
It would be hard not to feel part of the vibrant community spirit that flourishes at The Hawthorns Clevedon; there is always something to look forward to, whether it’s Tai Chi, art classes, bridge, line dancing or snooker on our full-sized table in the games room. Our various societies and clubs give our retirement village something of a ‘club house’ feel. We are companionable, and it is hard not to quickly settle in this friendly, active retirement community. You might say we are a real retirement home from home!
There are regular tea dances, talks, concerts and events, some to mark special days in the calendar, and for the others? Well, any excuse for a social engagement will do! With over 100 residents, mealtimes are lively affairs with lunch the main meal of the day. The local Clevedon community are regular visitors too and our money raising exploits are well known. We are as charitable with our time for each other as we are with our fundraising.
Trips out in the mini-coach go all over Somerset, to places such as Budleigh Salterton and Sidmouth on the south Devon coast and, closer by, Weston-super-Mare, Chew Valley Lake, Bath, Cheltenham and the lovely Wye Valley. Clevedon town itself has, of course, its famous pier, a range of interesting shops, plenty of cafés, and a walk along the promenade is always a delight.

Come Dine with Us!
A coffee on the seafront is very nice, but so are the well-cooked meals in the Hawthorns’ own restaurant. Meals are a focal point of the day, so whether it’s breakfast, lunch or supper, there is always a good choice of seasonal fare to suit all appetites and palates. Vegetarians and those with special diets will find our chefs very accommodating.
Lunch is the main meal of the day and is served with wine and aperitifs. If you are peckish between meals, there is always a selection of fruit, cakes and biscuits on offer in the coffee lounge. A private dining room is available, should you fancy a meal with friends and family for a special occasion.
All our food is beautifully presented, as we know this is important – our buffet lunches are a delight to behold. Chefs enjoy cooking for our candlelit dinners (which are held throughout the year), special occasions and themed evenings such as our Chinese night St Patrick’s Day supper, for which entertainment is also provided. We source a great of our food from local Somerset producers. Some of them even come in and show us how they produce such fine foods!
