Residents at the Hawthorns Northampton are never short of opportunities to embrace new hobbies and experiences, from creating exhibition-worthy artwork to exploring the world through virtual reality.
Each week, residents take part in art classes led by local artist Gerald Porter, former Director of Studies at the University of Leicester. With a wealth of teaching experience, Gerald encourages residents to explore a variety of artistic styles, including watercolour painting and chalk drawing.
One resident shared, “We have learnt so much and Gerald always helps to push our boundaries and discover new techniques.”
When Sales Receptionist, Karen Kita, embarked on a Mediterranean cruise, she kept the team updated with snapshots of her travels. Inspired by her photos, residents painted beautiful scenes of the Mediterranean, which they proudly presented to Karen upon her return. A wonderful example of the close-knit, caring community spirit that thrives within the Hawthorns Northampton.
Residents’ artistic achievements have even been showcased in the wider community. Their work has been displayed at the Weston Favell Community Gallery, allowing them to share their talents with others. One resident reflected, “It’s wonderful to learn something new alongside friends. Knowing that others enjoy our work and that we’re giving something back to our local community means a lot.”
From traditional activities to innovative technology, OdysseyVR recently visited the Hawthorns Northampton to deliver immersive virtual reality sessions. With VR headsets, residents were transported through familiar childhood neighbourhoods and the heights of Mount Everest, a blend of nostalgia, adventure, and wonder that left everyone in awe.
At the Hawthorns Northampton, every activity is designed to enhance residents’ well-being and enrich their retirement journey. Alongside organised events, residents also lead their own clubs and groups, ensuring there’s always something meaningful and engaging to enjoy.
