Actitvites Showcase Marks International Day of Older Persons

The Hawthorns Eastbourne held an activities showcase morning on Thursday 1st October to mark the International Day of Older Persons: an annual event that celebrates the achievements of older people and the major contribution they make to society.

Each year on 1st October events and activities are organized across the globe to promote healthy lifestyles and activities for older people, as well as encouraging the sharing of skills between generations. The Hawthorns Eastbourne event showcased the many varied activities that are available to residents at The Hawthorns and included talks and demonstrations by some of the activities leaders.

Carolyn Bloom Activities Coordinator at The Hawthorns says, "As we get older it is so important that we engage in activities which keep us happy and healthy and at The Hawthorns we offer a varied calendar of daily activities that cover a very wide range of interests.

"Of course, exercise is an important part of this but it’s not only the physical aspect of wellbeing that should be maintained. We take a holistic approach and offer activities that that benefit the whole person including their emotional and cognitive wellbeing.

"Some of the many activities on offer at the Hawthorns include art and craft classes, keep fit, information technology, poetry reading and short mat bowls. There are also monthly quiz nights and weekly outings to places of interest as well as regular social evenings."

Carolyn adds, "As well as organising activities, we encourage residents to set up their own clubs and groups and give any support they need to run them. It is wonderful that so many have been keen to share their skills and interests with their fellow residents."

A rich and varied calendar of activities is just one of the many benefits of life at The Hawthorns Eastbourne. To find out more about the unique and fulfilling retirement lifestyle on offer please call us on 01323 640088, or click here to request a brochure.
