“My aunt loves her apartment, which is really bright and sunny. The quality of life here is tremendous. She has made a number of friends and very much enjoys the social aspect. It is perfect for her.”

Luxury living links South Africa to Eastbourne

IT’S a long way from South Africa to Eastbourne but for one couple it’s a journey which is already proving very rewarding.

Kiki Grigat and her partner, Peter Harrison, have taken over the management of one of the town’s premier retirement developments, The Hawthorns in Carew Road – and say their previous job has prepared them well.

The couple spent eight years in southern Africa, managing luxury safari lodges, dealing with some very discerning guests. Kiki, 47, said: “That job was a fabulous experience and certainly fine-tuned our people skills. When we fancied a fresh challenge, The Hawthorns seemed perfect. It meant Peter and I could carry on working as a team and the quality of The Hawthorns reminded us of the five-star accommodation for which we had previously been responsible.”

The Hawthorns which offers residents a unique retirement lifestyle where all day-to-day bills including food, housekeeping, utilities and excursions are covered by one simple, all-inclusive monthly rental. Kiki and Peter are responsible for all aspects of managing the development’s 100-plus apartments and bungalows.

Peter, 49, added: “In our jobs, you have to love people. We are fortunate to have inherited some excellent staff here and our aim is to work with them to push the already high standards even higher.”
