Testimonials

“It's lovely not having to worry about paying the bills or doing any housework. I came here and it's all provided for me, I have not got to worry about getting to the shops - although I could go every morning (on the private coach) if I wanted to. The only thing I have to pay is my private telephone bill.”

Mrs Shelia Rolls receiving her share certificate from Simon Talbot-Ponsonby, Chairman of the Clevedon Pier & Heritage Trust. The Hawthorns Clevedon signed up as main sponsor for the new multi-million pound development at Clevedon Pier in January 2015.

A Hawthorns Clevedon resident has become Clevedon Pier’s very first community shareholder.

Mrs Sheila Rolls, 89, of The Hawthorns on Elton Road was first in line to support the scheme on launch day and says she is thrilled to be part of such an exciting project.

The community share scheme, which launched on Friday 14th August, aims to raise £350,000 needed to complete the construction of a new Visitor Centre at the Grade 1 listed landmark.

Mrs Rolls said: "I have been to lots of piers over the years and all around the world, because I love the sea and was quite a sailor in my day, but Clevedon is by far the best.

"I simply love it and can’t wait for all the exciting work that is being done to be finished. It already looks fantastic."

A spokesperson for Clevedon Pier and Heritage Trust said: “The Community share scheme gives people who love the Pier and people who love the idea of community ownership of such a well-loved landmark a unique opportunity to help secure the future of one of North Somerset’s most iconic structures.

"The new Visitor Centre will generate a more sustainable level of income for the pier which will help us to preserve the iconic landmark for future generations."
