The Blue Knight Bikers Ride Again

The Blue Knights motorcycle team paid a visit to The Hawthorns in Clevedon last month. A motorcycle belonging to one of the Blue Knight bikers, at The Hawthorns in Clevedon recnetly 11 bikers attended the event at The Hawthorns, much to the delight of the staff and residents.

Staff and residents at The Hawthorns in Clevedon were treated to a visit from the legendary Blue Knights motorcycle team last month.  The 11 strong team of bikers, who are all serving or former police motorcyclists, stopped off at The Hawthorns during their annual Cheddar Gorgeous ride out.

Ride Captain Simon Anderson said; "We were blessed with good weather and light traffic for our Cheddar Gorgeous ride out, and our welcome at The Hawthorns was a very warm one.

"Eleven of us started out at 11am. We headed onto The Mendip Hills at Cheddar and ended up at The Hawthorns where we were graciously invited for lunch."

The Chapter was given a tour of The Hawthorns by Activities Coordinator Jenny Hume, before being seated for a delicious homemade lunch of Pork and Apple Casserole or Lamb and Apricot Tagine, followed by Marscapone and Strawberry Tart.

After lunch, staff and residents joined the bikers in the grounds and three of The Hawthorns’ bravest residents - all over the age of ninety - rode pillion.

"One gentleman hadn’t ridden a motorcycle since he was seventeen and enjoyed the comfort of the BMW K1600, and one fearless lady was taken for a ride around the service road on the rear a Harley Davidson! All three guest pillions thoroughly enjoyed themselves." Recalls Simon.

Jenny Hume, Activities Coordinator at The Hawthorns added; "The Blue Knights do a fantastic job of raising money for charity and we are always delighted to welcome them to The Hawthorns. Their annual visit has become something of a tradition here and our residents thoroughly enjoy it."
