Testimonials

“It's lovely not having to worry about paying the bills or doing any housework. I came here and it's all provided for me, I have not got to worry about getting to the shops - although I could go every morning (on the private coach) if I wanted to. The only thing I have to pay is my private telephone bill.”

Braintree Couple Celebrate Diamond Wedding Anniversary

David and Jacquie on their wedding day in May 1956. David and Jacquie reveal the secret to a long and happy marriage: a high regard and respect for one another.

The Hawthorns Braintree celebrated a beautiful love story in May when we wished a Happy Diamond Wedding Anniversary to two of our residents: David and Jacquie.

David and Jacquie first met in 1943 when Jacquie was 10 and David 12. The families used to eat at a British Restaurant where Jacquie’s mother initially met David and then later introduced him to Jacquie. David and Jacquie went on their first date in 1951 where they attended The Festival of Britain exhibition in London.

After years of letter writing, whilst David was abroad, they got engaged in April 1956 and married a month later. After the honeymoon in the Lake District and the Norfolk Broads, Jacquie moved to Africa where David had been living for the past 3 years.

David was an Insurance Broker and Jacquie a Nurse. They have 1 daughter and 2 grandchildren.

David and Jacquie’s secret to a happy marriage? A high regard and respect for one another.
