“My aunt loves her apartment, which is really bright and sunny. The quality of life here is tremendous. She has made a number of friends and very much enjoys the social aspect. It is perfect for her.”

Essex retirement complex hosts quiz nights

The Hawthorns Braintree

WHEN it comes to exercising the little grey cells, residents at a Braintree retirement complex reckon they take some beating – and, to prove the point, are throwing down the gauntlet to other quiz teams to take them on.

The Hawthorns at Meadow Park has started hosting quiz evenings. The next one is scheduled for February 22. Teams of up to six can take part and the £5 per team entry fee will be donated to a charity of the residents' choosing.

Paul Tripney, Manager at The Hawthorns, said: "Our quiz nights have proved hugely popular and we've got some very knowledgeable residents in our midst. We thought it would be good fun to add a little external competition into the proceedings and raise some money for charity in the process.

"The Hawthorns normally enters three teams and they are competitive amongst themselves. Guest teams will be warmly welcomed but, be warned, our teams are confident of taking the top prize at the end of the evening, so the gauntlet is well and truly thrown down!"

The winning team will receive retail vouchers.  Anyone wishing to enter a team can contact 01376 335500 by February 15.
