Come along and support Farleigh's £50 Challenge

QUIZZES, horse-racing, tea-dances and car-boot sales – they’re all playing their part in a Braintree retirement development’s drive to boost the coffers of Farleigh Hospice as part of the hospice’s £50 Challenge launched last month.

The Hawthorns at Meadow Park is one of 50 organisations to accept the £50 Challenge gauntlet and now residents and staff are busying themselves arranging all sorts of events to turn that £50 into an amount considerably higher.

To get the ball rolling, The Hawthorns last week hosted a quiz evening when 12 teams, including one from The Hawthorns, competed for glory and raised money for charity in the process. This figure should be significantly boosted in the next couple of weeks with thee further events.

On July 13 The Hawthorns will be having a pitch at the Marks Tey car-boot sale when all proceeds raised from the sale of items donated by residents will go to the hospice.

The on July 16, The Hawthorns will be hosting a horse racing evening with guests invited. Tickets are £4 and there will be money prizes and a raffle.

The following day, the mood will change slightly with a traditional afternoon tea-dance complete with live music looking to raise further money for the hospice. Tickets are £4 which includes a buffet.

Geraldine Channon, Events Coordinator at The Hawthorns, where residents are offered a unique retirement lifestyle akin to a luxury, apartment-style experience covered by one simple, all-inclusive monthly rental, said: "Our residents have really got behind the £50 Challenge so we hope the local community will also lend their support and come along to what should be a couple of really fun events."

Tickets for the horse-racing evening and tea dance can be obtained on advance by telephoning Geraldine on 01376 335619.
