“My aunt loves her apartment, which is really bright and sunny. The quality of life here is tremendous. She has made a number of friends and very much enjoys the social aspect. It is perfect for her.”

Quiz gauntlet is thrown down

WHEN it comes to exercising the little grey cells, residents at a Braintree retirement development reckon they take some beating – and are throwing down the gauntlet to other quiz teams to take them on to prove the point.

The Hawthorns at Meadow Park is hosting the quiz evening on June 29. The £10 per team entry fee will be donated to Farleigh Hospice as part of The Hawthorns participation in the hospice’s £50 Challenge.

Geraldine Channon, Events Coordinator at The Hawthorns, where residents are offered a unique retirement lifestyle akin to a luxury, full-service apartment experience covered by one simple, all-inclusive monthly rental, said: "Our in-house quiz nights are hugely popular and we’ve got some very knowledgeable residents in our midst. We thought it would be good fun to add a little external competition into the proceedings and raise some money for Farleigh Hospice by inviting local clubs and organisations to enter a four-strong team.

"Our team is confident of taking the trophy at the end of the evening, so the gauntlet is well and truly thrown down!"

Team captain and former insurance salesman, 87-year-old Jack Cousins, said: "We’re not too good on contemporary music but otherwise we have a lot of knowledge between us and we’re ready to take on all-comers. We hope it will be a fun evening for all concerned."

The winning team with receive a prize and a cup. Anyone wishing to enter a team can contact Geraldine on 01376 335619.
