The concept of The Hawthorns retirement lifestyle was the brainchild of family man Bill Colson who founded the original company in the US over 30 years ago. This has grown to become the largest and most successful company in both construction and management of retirement communities in the world.
Bill Colson’s unique concept of luxury, hotel-style retirement in a purpose built facility established the company as the leading provider of gracious retirement living in the US and Canada.
The first establishment of its kind in the UK was The Hawthorns in Clevedon, Somerset, which was built in 1985 to much acclaim. This was followed by The Hawthorns in Eastbourne in 1999. The newest, The Hawthorns at Meadow Park was completed in 2009 and all three award-winning facilities are based on the US model and fine-tuned for the UK market. Most recently, The Gardens, built next to The Hawthorns in Eastbourne, a retirement hamlet of bungalows and maisonettes was completed in 2010.
The concept is both unique and simple, offering residents security, excellent accommodation, good food, the company of like minded neighbours and great service.
